The First Post

The First Post

Location: York, PA
Project Size: 16,890 SF

Project Overview:

Formerly known as The Roadhouse, The First Post is a historical landmark and an important part of local history. Dating back to the 1800’s, the name “The First Post” comes from the Owner’s intent that this location could have served as the first stop along the Lincoln Highway when entering York from the east.

The renovation of this historic structure included a significant addition nearly tripling the overall size of the original building. The additions were designed to reflect the historic nature of a timeless village street scape with each piece to feel like it’s own unique structure that has always been there. The culmination of the additions ends with a wrap around porch that appears to have been enclosed at some point in the history of the building, in order to expand the dining area. The design concept was to create an early 1900’s pub atmosphere throughout the restaurant. The back bar was salvaged from a Pittsburgh tavern dating back to the 1800’s. Other renovation features include decorative tin ceilings, custom wall panels made from repurposed church pews, custom millwork throughout and custom wrought iron stair and balcony railings. The restaurant can seat up to 270 at full capacity including several private dining rooms.
