McAllister Lofts
McAllister Lofts
Location: Hanover, PA
Project Size: 47,518 SF
Project Overview:
SAAarchitects provided architectural services for the adaptive reuse of this former 1920’s hotel building that previously housed around 70 rooms. The McAllister was then converted to a retirement home after World War II. In 1999, the 5-story building was renovated for affordable housing units that eventually reached complete vacancy.
Now, the former hotel features 30 market-rate loft style apartment units with underground parking in the basement level for residents. The layout features (1) one and (2) two bedroom apartments, a fitness center, and additional tenant spaces for a future coffee shop, restaurant, and raised deck level for dining. The interior renovation maintained multiple features of the former hotel including tile and marble flooring, brick detailing, the original staircase and decorative wrought-iron railing. Each apartment includes craftsman-style wainscoting. The completion of this project introduced the first market-rate loft apartments in Hanover.
