Project Overview:
SAAarchitects designed the complete renovation and adaptive reuse of this 1911 historic former department store complex for a mixed-use facility in Downtown York. Among the commercial suites, Iron Horse York Restaurant was featured on the main level. The entire project was completed in phases. Special features from the existing building were maintained including interior brick floors, brick walls, and decorative trim and railings. One of the most special features of the historic building were belt driven ceiling fans.
This project is elligible for the National Historic Register and is being considered for Federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit. SAA provided the consulting services to gain Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB) approval. SAAarchitects worked closely with the Owner and local artisans to create an industrial inspired atmosphere that celebrates York’s industrial history. Custom tables, light fixtures and banquette seats were created by Salvaging Creativity.
