Union House Apartments

Portfolio: Adaptive Reuse/Historic Preservation | Housing |

Project Overview
SAAarchitects provided complete Architectural, MEP and Structural Engineering Services for the adaptive reuse and complete renovation of the former, four story Historic Lykens Hotel building totaling 25,368 SF and the former, three story 13,085 SF “Israel Building”. The renovated buildings were converted to 28 residential units with required support spaces and community rooms. The renovation included nearly complete interior demolition, new roofs, windows, doors, flooring, walls, HVAC system, and utilities.

The project meets the requirements of the Enterprise Green Communities Program and achieved a HERS rating of 55, while preserving and restoring the Historic fabric of the two structures and converting them to modern, affordable housing communities. The design incorporates green and sustainable principals throughout. This project received Federal Historic Tax Credits from the National Park Service and Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
