SAAarchitects provided architectural, engineering and industrial hygiene services for the demolition of approximately 4-5 million cubic feet of vacant institutional style buildings pump stations, physical plants and tunnels serving the 120 acre Southeast Veteran’s Campus, including mitigation of hazardous materials. The campus also houses an Army National Guard Readiness Center, a 200 long term patient care facility (Coates Hall) and hospital. The project also involved the reconstruction and repair of campus roadways, parking lots and lighting. SAA conducted a feasibility/programming study of the upgrade of Coates Hall (50,000 square feet) which provides care facilities for veterans. Design includes new elevators and roof with upgrades to the HVAC, electrical, steam, hot water, fire protection and plumbing systems. SAA coordinated all consultants on the project and prepared schematic, design development and construction documents for the demolition, infrastructure upgrades and the Coates Hall renovation. Utility coordination was a major task as well as stormwater management, erosion and sedimentation control and NPDES permitting. The project was on a fast track for design, being executed within a 6 month design completion schedule. Construction phasing was a major task as well.
