Altland-Smyser Building Restoration

Feasibility Study

York, PA

This study explored possibilities for the conversion of a historic three-building warehouse into a commercial office facility. The initial design investigation called for the restoration of the historic facade through the Historic Reservation Tax Credit Program.

The final concept was to restore the architecturally significant early 20th century “middle” warehouse, and frame this structure with two contemporary yet historically compatible “bookend” buildings. The concept met strict standards of the York Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB) and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
